Mexicali Border Cafe Story & Concept

Copy of Copy of dt1.jpg (23243 bytes)Since the original Mexicali Border Cafe opened in Tulsa, Oklahoma at 71st and
Sheridan in 1987, it has developed a large
and devoted following. Considering the large
number of Mexican food restaurants in Tulsa,
what is it about Mexicali that continues to
attract such a steady stream of faithful customers?
If you guessed the food, you would (without question)
be right.  The magic arrives at each table in the form
of authentic Tex-Mex delights served in generous
portions.  Everything at Mexicali is made from scratch
to order.  Only top quality chicken, steak, and shrimp are used and, to insure freshness,
produce is ordered seven days a week.

Another part of the magic is the great value.  Not only do customers get fresh, generous
portions of expertly prepared food, but also the prices are more than competitive.
Mexicali owner
Marshall Kottler continues to work hard to control costs so families
can enjoy an evening at the restaurant without feeling a pinch in their wallet.

The second Mexicali Border Cafe opened in the heart of the Brady Arts district downtown
at the corner of Main and Brady in 1994. It quickly established itsel

downtown business professionals and those who attend
the various entertainment venues in the area.  With six
chefs on staff, Mexicali can usually get those who are
pressed for time in and out in 45 minutes or less.  There
are currently 13 lunch specials on the menu and two
new specialty Mexican sandwiches that provide an
unusual twist to the typical Mexican food experience.

Mexicali always provides a great selection of such
favorites as enchiladas, tacos, burritos, quesadillas, and chimichangas.  However, there is
also a specialty section of the menu featuring items such as Stuffed Carne Asada - steak
stuffed with Jack cheese, green onions, mushrooms, and jalapenos, or Shrimp Acapulco
- Gulf Coast Shrimp wrapped in bacon, stuffed with Jack cheese and jalapeno and grilled
to perfection.  The choice of side items at Mexicali ranges from the typical Spanish rice
and refried beans to garlic mashed potatoes and sauteed vegetables.

a regular cycle of every nine to twelve months.  Regular
diners at Mexicali also know that there are superb
off-menu items that are always available.  Weekly
pecials include Monday - kids eat for 1/2 price off
the kids menu; Tuesday - Fajitas for two are $13.99
($5 off the regular price); Wednesday - $2 off enchilada
dinners.  Daily specials start at 4:00 pm.  A large selection
of half-priced appetizers is offered at the bar during
happy hour all day Monday and from 4 pm to 7pm
Tuesday through Friday.
